John, a Maui native, is a graduate of Baldwin High School. He earned his degree in Occupational Therapy from The University of Puget Sound in 1982. His notable work experience includes chronic pain management, work conditioning and hardening programs, traumatic brain injury recovery and community integration rehabilitation, home evaluations, and employer based occupational health and ergonomic services. He has successfully evaluated and treated thousands of industrially injured workers and facilitated their return to work.
John's particular area of interest is rehabilitaion of work related spine and orthopedic injuries with a focus on returning the client to work and/or maximizing their functional potential. Treatment emphasizes active participation of clients with their own rehabilitation process. John's qualifications include expertise with functional & physical capacities evaluations, on-site job task analyses, ergonomic work station evaluations, environmental adaptations, modifications, injury prevention education, and return to work programs. He has 30+ years of experience working in the industrial arena and has co-authored a national publication on work hardening programs and has represented WA State's Occupational Therapy Association by contributing to the Department of Labor and Industries ergonomic program guidlines. He worked on the mainland for 17 years before returning to Maui. He is also a Certified Fitness Trainer.
He resides in Pukalani and being a basketball enthusiast, can often be found on Maui's basketball courts and gyms when not spending time with his family. Being active in sports has provided insight for a deeper understanding of sports / work related injuries and similarities with the stresses found in the workplace and everyday life. |
